Design It Clean

Design It Clean

What would it take to design a water filtration system that met the needs of a specific community?
Subjects: Science
Grade Level: High School
Timeframe: 15-20 hours

Final Product

Students will develop a water filter prototype to share with a key stakeholder from an identified community.

Project Description

There are many water filtration products available, but access to clean water remains an issue in many places. Sometimes, community members can’t afford filtration devices. At other times, a device’s design may not account for the specific resources a community may or may not have, or the community’s habits and beliefs. In Design It Clean, students learn to use the engineering design process (key high school standards) to develop water filters that are dependable, affordable, and designed to meet the needs of a specific community struggling to access clean water.
