Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap

How can I survive middle school without losing myself?
Subjects: English Language Arts
Grade Level: Middle School
Timeframe: 25-30 hours

Final Product

A “Middle School Survival Guide” written by 7-8th grade students for students transitioning into middle school.

Project Description

Transitioning from elementary school to middle school can be an exciting yet scary process for students. This project acknowledges both aspects, and honors the experiences of middle school students. Older middle school students will have the opportunity to reflect upon and write about their transition to middle school, particularly reflecting on the challenges they faced. In order to create a “Survival Guide” for 5th-6th graders, they will study adolescence through the lens of their own experiences, the experiences of their peers, literature, and the work of expert researchers
